Mission

For centuries, musicians have carried forward the musical heritage of humanity—a cultural asset woven across time and borders—and delivered it to us today. Yet, many face a silent, fundamental challenge: a disconnect between the music they hear in their minds and the physical capacity of their bodies to express it. This gap between artistic vision and technical execution can stifle creativity, lead to frustration, and even cause injury through misguided effort.

My work exists to close this gap.

By integrating my background as a professional musician with the mindful, body-aware principles of a certified Alexander Technique teacher, I provide a holistic framework for artistic development. I guide musicians toward a conscious and efficient partnership with their own bodies—transforming ingrained habits, releasing unnecessary tension, and unlocking natural coordination. This process cultivates the musician’s entire being as a responsive and resilient instrument.

This is more than technical training; it is education in the art of use. I aim to liberate performers from physical limitations, empowering them to channel their deepest artistic intentions into clear, sustainable, and authentic expression. Ultimately, I support musicians in shifting their focus from the struggle of how to play, to the freedom of what they wish to communicate—fostering artistry that is both profoundly expressive and enduringly sustainable.

Alexander Technique

The Alexander Technique is a transformative educational method that addresses the intricate relationship between thought, movement, and habit. It’s not a treatment or a set of exercises, but a way to recognize and change lifelong habits of tension that interfere with your natural, innate coordination.

Developed over a century ago by F. Matthias Alexander(1869-1955), its principles have proven relevant for anyone seeking to:

  • improve performance

  • alleviate chronic pain

  • reduce stress

  • experience greater ease in daily life activities

While the Alexander Technique benefits people from all walks of life, it's especially renowned among actors, dancers, and musicians. Its proven effectiveness is why it's integrated into the curriculum of the world's leading institutions—including The Juilliard School, The Royal College of Music, and Berklee College of Music.

BACKGROUND

My Guiding Principles and Training

My teaching philosophy bridges the art of music with the science of learning. I offer a refined, evidence-based approach that is meticulously tailored to each student’s unique neurotype, goals, and physicality. This isn’t just about learning notes; it’s about cultivating confident, resilient, and expressive musicians for life.

My approach is not a departure from tradition, but a refinement of it.

By synthesizing the structural frameworks of the Royal Conservatory of Music with the somatic intelligence of the Alexander Technique, I help students dissolve the interference that prevents them from reaching their natural potential.

From Chronic Pain to Freedom

Why should I do if I injured my hands by playing instruments

I didn't discover the Alexander Technique out of curiosity—I found it out of desperation. I suffered from tendinitis for 2 years and spent over 40,000 HKD on medical treatments, trapped in a cycle of pain and recovery.

The Alexander Technique gave me the tools to break the cycle for good. It taught me that my injury is the inevitable result of my unconscious, harmful habits built up over a lifetime of playing.

But it did more than just heal me. It revolutionized my relationship with the piano. The same demanding passages that once caused me struggle and pain, I can now approach with a newfound sense of ease and effortlessness. I learned that true power in music doesn't come from force, but from intelligent coordination and release.

My personal liberation is why I became an AT teacher. I am a living testament to its power, and I feel a deep responsibility to share this knowledge with others.

Testimonials

“I have heard about Alexander Technique since I was studying at the University. My teachers, friends and colleagues were talking about this method of adjusting the body and mind - to relieve pain from playing in long hour rehearsals or concerts and the inevitable practice sessions for us musicians. Many of us suffer from all kinds of injuries, neck and back pain, jaw dysfunction, shoulder impingement, and performance anxiety, including myself. As a clarinetist, I suffer from years of jaw pain and shoulder tension due to long practice hours and rehearsals. I have been through the process of seeking doctors for help, taking muscle relaxants and years of adjusting my way of playing in order to get rid of this unease. Unfortunately, these solutions are to treat the symptoms but not the root cause.

With a little bit of luck I had chances to have Alexander Technique sessions with Mr. Eiji Tanimura and Ms. Anna Tse. I am amazed by the simplicity of the Alexander Technique, to my surprise I was doing simple movements such as sitting, standing, and walking during the sessions. They showed me my habitual patterns of movement and posture that cause tension and strain.

I particularly remember the practice session I had on the day after the first Alexander Technique lesson with Ms. Anna Tse. I felt very relaxed, especially with my shoulder and jaw, the tension was gone, and my body was slowly adjusting to this new way of playing the clarinet, so I started experimenting and since then my practice sessions have been getting more and more effective. By learning and knowing more about my body, I experienced more freedom in movement, making music has been more enjoyable and less constrained since I started to implement this method in my playing.

To my fellow music lovers and colleagues who have constantly suffered from all kinds of long term injuries, I would like to encourage you to learn and experience this treasure for performers, and may you regain your pleasure and ease in making music with the help of the Alexander Technique. “

Wait—Consider the Cost of Waiting

Continuing to practice without addressing the root causes of tension or without a structured framework:

You risk reinforcing habits that lead to injury and hinder your growth.

You may never fully express the music you're truly capable of.

Your progress will remain slower and more frustrating than necessary.

The joy in playing can gradually turn into strain and obligation.
